We believe that corporate responsibility is one of the core principles of the way we conduct business at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC).
We are committed to work practices which engender sustainable values and community focussed outcomes.
We put these beliefs into practice through our activities within our community and our commitment to responsibly managing both our direct and indirect environmental impacts.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
The BCEC Community Engagement Program is at the heart of the Centre’s involvement in its community.
Major components of the Program are as follows:
-
Give As You Earn is the BCEC payroll giving project that allows staff to donate directly to charities through payroll deduction. Staff are encouraged to nominate a charity or community organisation to our Community Cabinet.
-
Matching Gifts BCEC Management matches the fundraising efforts of BCEC teams to their chosen charities on a dollar for dollar basis.
-
Volunteering BCEC supports the efforts of staff involved in helping their local community, whether this is done on an individual basis or as part of a team. BCEC Team Community Service days are supported with paid leave or a day in lieu being granted.
-
Community Partnerships BCEC provides discounted event services for community groups and not-for-profit organisations.
-
Sharing our Resources – Equipment and Food BCEC has been and continues to be a strong supporter of Food Bank in Brisbane whereby surplus food is collected and distributed to people in need. BCEC superseded equipment is also provided to schools and community based organisations for their ongoing use.
-
Pathways to Work BCEC has a proud tradition of supporting and promoting employment and education training within the Centre. Successful programs have been undertaken with indigenous trainees and schools and other tertiary institutions within our community. The Centre has supported a number of disability employment agencies for many years by providing employment and training opportunities for their members. Team members employed under this initiative have over 10 years service with the Centre.
-
BCEC Community Service Awards As part of the Centre’s Corporate Responsibility Program, annual Awards are made to the BCEC teams who have made the most impact or contributed most significantly to the community through their volunteering efforts. The Awards comprise a donation by the Centre to the team’s nominated charity.
