Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre's community watch program is a key initiative of its long standing commitment to Social Responsibility. It is also an integral component of work practices that encourages a balance between work, family and community.
Managed by a Communitywatch Team, comprising staff members from across all departments, the centre piece of community watch is a very active Community Engagement Program, which encourages our people to have a positive social impact on the local and wider communities.
Cooking with our community
Last year the Centre conducted the first in its series of Cooking with the Community, a joint project with our long term community partners, West End Community House. Conducted by our Executive Chef, these classes provide basic nutrition and cooking skills for those in our local neighbourhood who struggle with society and quality of life.
The classes have evolved from last year, with double the numbers of participants engaging in conversation about all things related to food as well as the basic benefits of healthy eating, affordable menus and shopping choices. The first two classes covered the areas of understanding food labelling, nutritional value of foods and choosing the right foods, healthy breakfast choices and the versatility of vegetables
