STRIVING FOR SUSTAINABILITY

Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) is committed to responsibly managing both our direct and indirect environmental impacts and the long-term sustainability of our business.

The Centre is a foundation member of the Federal Government’s Greenhouse Challenge and has achieved Green Globe international benchmarking status for its commitment to the environment.

Our quest for sustainability is strategically driven from within the Centre by our Environmental Task Force and through our key suppliers We strive to achieve sustainable development and performance through a balance of environmental, economic and social factors across all areas of operation.

Our operationally based Green Team was established in 2003 and has been at the forefront of changes to BCEC technology and operations.

We have reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by the introduction of a number of operational and building performance initiatives. We have achieved a reduction in energy consumption of 6.5%, and a reduction in water consumption of 21.6%.

BCEC has also made a major commitment to the environment by purchasing 100% Green Power for the operation of the Administration Office of the Centre.

PARTNERSHIPS

The BCEC team is very experienced and adept in working with clients to reduce waste and energy consumption, while also working to create an event that will be successful and memorable for the attendees.

We recently partnered with Cisco Systems to make their Networkers Conference a “greener” meeting. See how this was achieved and the greenhouse gas emission savings by reading the Cisco Networkers 2007 Case Study.

At the heart of providing a greener meeting, is the availability of an easy to use, but robust ecological footprint calculator. BCEC has commissioned development of a calculator which will be included in the Client Only section of this site. The calculator will provide clients with the opportunity to review their choices to find the level of green meeting they desire.
