Conventions favour Brisbane in an outstanding result for the City
01 Sep 2007
It is fitting that as the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre celebrates its 10th anniversary, it is also celebrating a year of outstanding financial performance.
In the 2004/05 Financial Year, the Centre has achieved record results, both financially and performance-based, delivering record profits, generating a record $214 million economic benefit for Queensland and hosting a total of 857 events – the highest number of events ever held at the Centre in a single year. During the same financial period the Centre’s Sales Team confirmed an additional 57 conventions for the Centre with an estimated value of $97 million to the city of Brisbane.
This newly confirmed convention business included 15 international conventions and is in addition to the 900 events already booked at the Centre through to 2013.The Centre continues to receive an average of 30 new bookings every week.
Convention Centre General Manager Robert O’Keeffe said future bookings and recent record sales figures and bid wins indicate that the substantial growth in the performance of the Centre will continue well into the next decade.
