Green Globe Benchmark Endorsement for Brisbane Convention Centre The Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) has achieved international benchmarking status for its commitment to the environment.
Brisbane joins its fellow AEG Ogden managed Centre, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre as well as Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre in being the only convention centres in the world to be recognised by the highly rated international Green Globe Group, whose rigorous accreditation program ranks businesses and organisations on their environmental practices across a range of operational areas.
Green Globe is the international benchmarking, certification and improvement system for sustainable travel and tourism established by the World Travel and Tourism Council. Results from the Green Globe audit were testimony to the Centre’s green credentials with the Centre surpassing baseline benchmark standards in all 10 of assessment areas and significantly above best practice standards in seven of the key areas.
Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre General Manager Robert O’Keeffe said the very positive results reflected the Centre’s ongoing commitment to its environmental program and its determination to work with clients and suppliers to implement additional sustainability initiatives to further improve its environmental record.
The Centre is currently collaborating with Cisco in an ongoing strategy to reduce the carbon footprint of their annual industry conference, following the very favourable outcome of their collaborative efforts for the 2007 event.
This latest achievement for the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre builds on an already significant sustainability track record, which includes the Centre being a founding member of Australia’s Greenhouse Challenge and the formation of an Environmental Task Force, charged with striving to achieve sustainable development and performance through a balance of environmental, economic and social and cultural factors.
