World recognition for BCEC’s environmental achievements Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) has won a major international industry award for its environmental leadership, further endorsing its already strong credentials in that area.
The Centre has won the sought after IMEX 2010 Green Supplier Silver Award at the annual IMEX Exhibition in Frankfurt this week, with a first time entry for the Centre into the prestigious awards. IMEX is the leading exhibition for the global meetings industry, attracting more than 3000 exhibitors from 157 countries.
The Green Supplier Award was developed by IMEX and the Green Meetings Industry Council to recognise environmental excellence and innovation within the meetings industry.
This latest award acknowledges the Centre’s commitment to sustainable development and work practices and its achievements in energy efficient initiatives, resource recovery, water conservation and commitment to change.
Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, one of Australia’s leading convention centres, has a long and proud tradition of environmental practices which have expanded and developed to become embedded in mainstream policy.
BCEC General Manager, Robert O’Keeffe said the Centre was honoured and delighted to be part of the IMEX Green Suppliers Award and to be acknowledged internationally.
“It is our firm belief that green values are mainstream values and are fundamental to the day to day operations of the Centre. We made a strategic commitment a number of years ago to establish our credentials as a globally responsible organisation and to build a sustainable future for our clients, our staff and our community. We implemented our environmental policies at grass roots level long before the green movement gathered momentum and we continue to progress and develop those policies,” he said.
Australia collected both the gold and silver categories in this year’s IMEX Green Supplier Award, with Adelaide Convention Centre taking out gold after winning silver at last year’s awards. The IMEX Green Supplier Silver Award is the first international green award for the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.
