More than 1500 of the country’s leading medical and surgical minds met in Brisbane last week at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) Scientific Congress 2016 held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC).
The five day congress which generated $4.5 million in economic benefit for Brisbane and delivered 7,500 room nights to the city is just one of 133 conferences to be hosted by the AEG Ogden managed BCEC this year.
Boosting the international profile of this congress was the participation of the Royal College of Surgeons of England led by College President, Miss Clare Marx, one of the key speakers.
The congress focussed on a range of topics around surgery, all aspects of technology and how it impacts on surgeons and communication, with international and national keynote speakers sharing the latest in medical and surgical research with delegates.
Findings from the conference, including the dangers to children of burns involving steam vaporisers, the safety risks related to mobility scooters and revelations from a leading knee surgeon that Australia had the highest rate of knee injuries in the world led the local and national news bulletins during the five day event.
BCEC Convention Advocate, Associate Professor Richard Lewandowski was the Convenor of the 2016 congress with a number of other BCEC Advocates playing key leadership roles in participating and presenting at the event.
